there are computers that generate random numbers, the more random the cooler the dot gets
but, if the numbers get less random, the dot gets warmer

if people are thinking about the same thing (Suggests broadly shared coherence of thought and emotion), the dot gets warmer, but if they aren't and are instead focusing on what matters to themselves then the dot gets cooler
i forget how the computers and the thoughts tie into each other, but its meant to predict major happenings or whatever

the colors in order from most random to least random are:
dark blue, blue, cyan, green, yellow, orange, red, and pink (i've only seen this happen when one of the servers is down)

remember how there are times when meta slop and doomfagging are the only things people talk about, at these points they start sharing the idea of the site being dead, and so they may find it not worth to post
ironically if people are selfish little fucks and don't care about the consensus and post what they want, the site is more alive
